Op 20 maart 2013 maakte de gemeente Amsterdam met de schoolbesturen afspraken over het Basispakket Kunst- en Cultuureducatie. De kinderen in groep 1 tot en met 8 gaan wekelijks twee tot drie uur cultuuronderwijs krijgen, waarvan één uur muziekles en één uur beeldende vorming of cultureel erfgoed. Het derde uur vullen de basisscholen naar eigen voorkeur in met bijvoorbeeld theater of dans.
