De ijsbanen van Groningen en Dronte

De ijsbanen van Groningen en Dronten dienen tot het einde van het schaatsseizoen als trainingslocatie voor de topteams van het professionele schaatsen. De 400-meterbaan van Thialf in Heerenveen is namelijk na de WK afstanden niet meer beschikbaar vanwege de verbouwing van de ijshal. Volgens de Friese schaatstempel is de nieuwe ijsbaan vanaf half november weer te berijden.

De schaatsbond KNSB heeft huurafspraken gemaakt met het Sportcentrum Kardinge in Groningen en het Leisure World Ice Center in Dronten. De langebaanploegen en Jong Oranje gaan er vanaf komende maandag hun trainingen afwerken. Voor de nationale shorttrackselectie verandert er vooralsnog niets. Zij kunnen in Thialf blijven trainen omdat de ijshockeyhal open blijft.

De verbouwing vindt plaats in drie fases en moet in het najaar van 2016 helemaal zijn afgerond. Het compleet vernieuwde Thialf hoopt door de verbouwing een van de beste laaglandbanen ter wereld te blijven.
