De scheepsbouw activiteiten van ALSTOM, zijnde de gigantische scheepswerf “Chantiers de l'Atlantique” in Saint Nazaire en de scheepwerf in Lorient, zijn in 2006 verkocht aan het Scandinavische Aker Yards.
Aker Yards kwam in 2008 in handen van het Zuid-Koreaanse STX Shipbuilding via STX Europe.
Sinds 6 november 2008 is Chantiers de l'Atlantique een dochteronderneming van STX France Cruise (-> 66.6% van de aandelen is in handen van STX Europe, 33,34% van de Franse staat).
