Om een positieve sfeer in de groep te krijgen is het voor kinderen van belang dat ze weten wat er van hen verwacht wordt. Dat biedt veiligheid en maakt dat kinderen steeds meer initiatief durven tonen. Vooral jongste kleuters hebben behoefte aan de directe nabijheid van u als leerkracht om grip te krijgen op de dagelijkse gang van zaken in een klas. Kleuters die wat verder zijn in hun ontwikkeling krijgen besef van regels en kunnen zich in toenemende mate daaraan houden, ook als de leerkracht niet in de buurt is. U schept als leerkracht de kaders waarbinnen de kinderen in toenemende mate inspraak hebben en eigen keuzes kunnen maken.
